Überlin - a new hit for REM

Überlin is a terrific song; as easy to listen to as Losing My Religion, Everybody Hurts or Electrolite (among other popular favorites).

After celebrating their thirtieth year recording and touring together as a band the guys released their fifteenth studio album (Collapse Into Now) to terrific reviews across the board.

Rolling Stone magazine is celebrating 30 years of REM in photographs so I thought I'd highlight a few here as a backdrop for the video that I've come to überlove these past few weeks.

The video for Überlin features actor Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy and Kick-Ass) casually dancing his way through the streets of Berlin, I believe it's Berlin (that's where the band recorded the song). It's directed by Johnson's girlfriend, the British artist/filmaker Sam Taylor-Wood. She is 23 years his senior (Aaron is 21 yrs old).

Here's to thirty more terrific years of music....cheers!

Tragedy Strikes Celebrity During Talk Show Taping

I can’t say that I love Jesus

That would be a hollow claim.

He did make some observations

And I’m quoting them today.

''Judge not lest ye be judged.''

What a beautiful refrain.

Call me a leper
The studio audience disagrees.

Have his lambs all gone astray?

Call me a leper

'You are lost and disillusioned''

What an awful thing to say.

I know this show doesn’t flatter.

It means nothing to me.

I thought I might help them understand

But what an ugly thing to see.
Call me a leper

''I am not...."

''...an animal''

Subtitled under the screen.

When I tried to tell my story

Call me a leper

They cut me off to take a break.

I sat silent 5 commercials

I had nothing left to say

 Call me a leper
The talk show host was index-carded
All organized and blank

The other guests were scared and hardened

What a sad parade.

Call me a leper

What a sad parade
Call me a leper

Call me a leper today

To the Soldiers: Thank You

There are no words that can give a man back the time he has served for his country, but thank you to the men who have put their lives on the line and to the many that never made it back home.

I've got my spine...

Monty Got A Raw Deal

Monty this seems strange to me.

The movies had that movie thing,
But nonsense has a welcome ring
And heroes don’t come easy.

Now, nonsense isn’t new to me.
I know my head, I know my feet,
But mischief knocked me in the knees.
Said, Just let go.
Just let go.

I saw the ocean meet the man.
I saw you buried in the sand.
A friend was there to hold your hand,
Said, Walk on by.

So, I went walking through the street.
I saw you strung up in a tree.
A woman knelt there said to me,
Said, Hold your tongue, man.
Hold your tongue.

You don’t owe me anything.
You don’t want this sympathy. [waste your breath]
Don’t you waste your breath. [waste your breath]
For the silver screen.

That nonsense doesn’t mean a thing,
They tried to bust you in a sting,
But virtue isn’t everything
So, don’t waste your time.

Now, here’s a rhyme that you can steal.
Put this on your reel to reel.
Mischief threw a rotten deal.
Now Monty’s laying low...
he is laying low.
Just let go, y’all.
Just let it go.

You don’t owe me anything.
You don’t want this sympathy. [waste your breath]
Don’t you waste your breath.
[waste your breath]

Monty this seems strange to me.
